Yes HALON, for those of who can remember HALON Extinguishers were the bee's knees, it was the go to extinguishing agent for the Fire Service and when it came to a substrate nothing worked better.
Sadly though HALON is now a banned substance and ceased production in 1994 under the Clean Air Act, which means the last HALON Fire Extinguishers should have been replaced by 1997. However we still find these every week and while it is not illegal to own one, it certainly is dubious if you have an engineer who isn’t recommending its replacement.

We seem to be coming across a larger and larger amount of bad trading practices and either condemned or illegal Fire Extinguishers being sold to unsuspecting customers.
We recently shared posts on our Facebook page from news items of door-to-door scam sales people pretending they are from the Fire & Rescue Service offering Fire Extinguishers for sale. They were over priced and of course completely unfit for use.
Here at AMP Fire HQ in Hinckley Leicestershire we have also seen small business owners fall victim of foul play and immoral trading with Fire Extinguisher Inspections and Services.
Here’s a photo of a dangerous and illegal Fire Extinguisher we recently found at a new customer premises in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The owner was told it needed 2kg Co2 Fire Extinguisher replacements and the former company had some “refurbished” Extinguishers, which he could have at half price. What this company actually provided was an Extinguisher, which was several years out of date and had simple been re-sprayed.
This wouldn’t have been so obvious if they had bothered to removed and replace the valve assembly before they re-sprayed the whole Fire Extinguisher.
Take a look at the photo, on the object to the left you can clearly see what the valve assembly should look like. Its not unusual for an Extinguisher to be refurbished and with that also re-sprayed but this was not the correct way to do it.
If you think you have seen poor practice from a Fire Protection Company you can contact the Fire Industry Association (FIA) here’s a link to their web site.
We're a glad to announce another new customer this week for both Fire Extingiusher Inspection & Servicing, and also Fire Marshall Training.
We must say we have been very impressed in the facility and premises at Albany Cycles the owner Simon has clealry set his standards for quality very high both in the work they do and products they sell and now this attitude of high standards permeates throughout the business and into his regards for Fire Safety.
